Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, Gonville & Caius College is one of the city's most iconic wedding venues, combining breathtaking architecture, peaceful courtyards and an intimate chapel to create an unforgettable setting for a wedding day.

As Cambridgeshire wedding photographers, we're fortunate to photograph weddings at some incredible venues, but there's something truly special about a Gonville & Caius College wedding. Every corner of the college tells a story, from the historic stonework and beautiful cloisters to the grand Hall and stunning chapel.

Paoula & Austen were one of the lucky few to celebrate their wedding here, and from the moment we arrived it was clear it was going to be a day full of love, laughter and unforgettable moments.

Before the celebrations began, we spent some time capturing the little details that make every wedding unique. From Paoula's beautiful bridal details, wedding dress and elegant cake, to the stunning floral arrangements inside the chapel, there was no shortage of inspiration.

We also couldn't resist photographing the magnificent Hall, where the wedding breakfast would later take place. With its impressive portraits, centuries of history and long banquet tables, it's one of the most spectacular reception rooms we've photographed. Knowing that portraits of distinguished former Fellows, including Professor Stephen Hawking, look over the room only adds to the incredible atmosphere.

A Relaxed Morning with the Bride

The morning preparations had such a lovely atmosphere. Everything felt calm, relaxed and full of excitement as Paoula got ready alongside her two bridesmaids.

One of our favourite moments came when her parents saw her in her dress for the very first time. Watching her dad become emotional is exactly why we love photographing weddings, these genuine moments between families are impossible to recreate and become some of the most treasured photographs from the entire day.

Meeting Austen and the Groomsmen

Before the ceremony, we met Austen and his groomsmen in one of the college courtyards for a few relaxed photographs together.

They were a brilliant group to photograph, laid back, full of laughs and clearly excited for the day ahead. We always enjoy spending a few minutes with the groom before the ceremony, helping everyone settle into the day while capturing some natural moments before the celebrations really begin.

A Beautiful Ceremony Inside the College Chapel

The ceremony took place inside Gonville & Caius College's exclusive chapel, one of the most beautiful ceremony spaces in Cambridge.

One particularly memorable part of the ceremony was discovering that the officiant was a genuine descendant of William Shakespeare, a wonderful piece of history that felt perfectly suited to such an iconic venue.

As Paoula walked down the aisle, surrounded by family and friends, there was an overwhelming sense of emotion throughout the chapel. During the signing of the register, one of Paoula's bridesmaids performed a beautiful song, making the ceremony even more personal and heartfelt.

Before joining their guests outside, we kept the newlyweds back for a few quiet moments alone inside the now-empty chapel. These portraits, surrounded by centuries of history, have become some of our favourite photographs from the entire day.

One of Our Favourite Confetti Moments in Cambridge

While guests gathered outside one of the college's historic gates, we captured a few final portraits of Paoula & Austen walking through the beautiful architecture of the college before joining everyone for the confetti.

Their confetti exit was genuinely one of the best we've photographed.

With the college gates opening out into the heart of Cambridge, passers-by stopped to congratulate the newlyweds, cheering as they walked through a sea of confetti. It created such an incredible atmosphere and perfectly reflected the joy of the day.

Drinks Reception in the College Courtyard

Guests enjoyed drinks, laughter and plenty of time catching up together.

These relaxed moments are some of our favourites to photograph. There's very little direction from us, just genuine conversations, hugs and smiles as everyone enjoys the celebrations in one of Cambridge's most historic settings.

Exploring the Beautiful Grounds of Gonville & Caius College

For their couple portraits, we simply wandered through the college together, stopping whenever beautiful light or architecture caught our eye.

One of the biggest advantages of a Gonville & Caius College wedding is the incredible variety of backdrops within just a few minutes' walk. From elegant doorways and historic courtyards to quiet corners and stunning buildings, every part of the college offered something unique.

Rather than focusing on stiff poses, we encouraged Paoula & Austen to simply enjoy spending a few quiet moments together. The result was a collection of natural, relaxed photographs that perfectly reflected their personalities while showcasing one of Cambridge's most iconic wedding venues.

A Wedding Breakfast Surrounded by History

Returning to the magnificent Hall for the wedding breakfast was another real highlight of the day.

The room itself is breathtaking. Surrounded by historic portraits and centuries of academic history, it provides an atmosphere unlike any other wedding venue we've photographed.

The speeches perfectly matched the setting, balancing heartfelt emotion with plenty of laughter. There wasn't a dry eye in the room during some of the more touching moments, while the best man's speech had everyone laughing from beginning to end.

Champagne Tower Celebrations

Before the evening celebrations got underway, everyone gathered to watch Paoula & Austen pour their champagne tower.

It was one of those wonderfully fun moments where nobody takes themselves too seriously. Lots of laughter, plenty of cheering and another brilliant memory before the dance floor opened.

A Ballroom First Dance

Back inside the Hall, now transformed for the evening celebrations, Paoula & Austen performed a beautifully rehearsed ballroom first dance.

It was an incredible performance, complete with elegant lifts and spins that left their guests cheering throughout. Moments like these are always fantastic to photograph, especially inside such an impressive historic setting.

A Quiet Moment Before the Party Continued

Before heading back to celebrate with their family and friends, we stole the newlyweds away for one final quiet moment together.

Sometimes the last photographs of the day become the most meaningful. Just the two of them, taking a breath and reflecting on everything that had happened before returning to dance the rest of the night away.
